The #13-ranked men’s volleyball team began their home
schedule on Tuesday night in the ARC Arena with matches against
CCNY and Rutgers-Newark.
The Bearcats (3-8, 1-0 CUNYAC) started the evening by sweeping
CCNY in their CUNYAC opener with scores of 25-11 (.556), 25-22,
25-11.
Steven
Coniglio led Baruch with eight kills (.778), while
Jesus
Echevarria (.455) and Ray
Satagaj (.400) each recorded six kills. Takeshi
Kawahigashi notched a career-high six aces and Sam
Park totaled four kills.
Matthew Ng and Nicholas Siriban led CCNY (0-8, 0-1 CUNYAC) with
eight kills each.
In the second non-conference match against Rutgers-Newark, which
is currently transitioning their volleyball program from Division I
to III, the visiting Scarlet Raiders swept with scores of 25-18,
25-21, 25-22.
Pablo
Oliveira led Baruch with 11 kills and six total digs,
while Eryk
Kowalski notched seven kills. Echevarria dished out 22
assists and recorded three kills. Coniglio finished the match with
four kills.
Austin Pappas led the visiting Scarlet Raiders (6-0) with nine
kills (.500).
Overall, Rutgers-Newark totaled 33 kills (.278), compared to 27
(.194) by Baruch.
The men’s volleyball team will return to action on Thursday,
February 3rd, at home in the ARC Arena with a 7:00 pm
non-conference match against #4-ranked NYU.
