#15 Bearcats Upset #5 NYU in Four Sets on Senior Night


The #15-ranked men’s volleyball team upset #5-ranked NYU in a non-conference home match played on Tuesday night (Senior Night) in the ARC Arena.

The Bearcats dropped the first set 28-26, but came back to win the next three with scores of 25-16, 25-17, 26-24 to defeat the Violets for the first time.

Overall, the Bearcats notched 48 kills hitting .337, while the Violets had 58 kills, but only managed to hit for a percentage of .240. The visiting Violets also totaled 15 service errors.

Steven Coniglio led the attack this evening with 16 kills hitting a torrid .625 to go along with four blocks. Vincent Cruz also placed in double-figures with 14 kills hitting .519 with five blocks.

Jack McKee had another solid match with eight kills hitting .333 with four blocks. Danny Olson dished out 42 assists and collected five digs, while Christopher Kaimis and Gabe Rivera totaled six digs each.

Taylor Fauntleroy led NYU (20-7) with 16 kills hitting .625. Pat Dodd recorded 15 kills and Karl Johnson dished out 46 assists.  

Prior to the match, Baruch (18-14) honored seniors Sam Park and Vincent Cruz for their years of service to the men’s volleyball team and athletic department.

The Bearcats will quickly return to action tomorrow night, Wednesday, April 4, with a pair of CUNYAC matches at York College in Jamaica, New York. The matches are scheduled for 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
