The Carthage College men's volleyball team (22-10, 8-0 Midwest-III
Volleyball Conference), ranked fourth in the March 29 American
Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III poll, received a
berth in the Friday-Saturday, April 15-16 Molten Championship at
Nazareth College's Robert A. Kidera Gym in Rochester, N.Y.
Carthage, the Midwest/West Region at-large team, joins Nazareth
(29-3) and North East Collegiate Volleyball Association tournament
runner-up Baruch College (34-14) in the four-team field. Nazareth
won the NECVA tournament title. The fourth team will be the winner
of an April 6 Eastern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association match
between Springfield College (13-13) and New York University (17-7)
in New York, N.Y.
This is Carthage's fourth appearance in the Molten Championship.
Both the 2005 and 2007 Red Men teams finished second in the event,
and the 2010 squad finished third at Tarble Arena in Kenosha, Wis.
The Molten Championship will come to an end after this year's
event, as the NCAA will launch a Division III Men's Volleyball
Championship in 2012.
