EMU Come Up Points Short Against Mount Olive

The Eastern Mennonite men's volleyball team hosted powerful D-II foe Mount Olive Wednesday in Harrisonburg. The Royals stayed close to their visitors all night but could never get past them when it mattered and dropped a 3-0 decision.

The Trojans took a 12-7 lead in game one and effectively traded points to a 25-19 win.

But EMU was ready for game two. The men jumped ahead 7-4, only to have Mount Olive use a 7-1 streak to go on top 11-8. The Royals got to within 18-17 before the Trojans closed out on a 7-3 edge to win 25-20.

Despite trailing 2-0 in games, the home team didn't fold and held a lead of 13-11. Mount Olive retook the lead but the Royals tied it back up at 18-18. But the Trojans got some big swings down the stretch to end on a 7-1 run to close things out at 25-19.

Outside hitter Chris Moise (Hollywood, Fl./South Broward) had a solid night, getting nine kills and a pair of blocks. John Barry (Aaron Bridge, Oh./Worthington Kilbourne) had 24 set assists and five kills of his own.

John Grove (Glen Allen, Va./Deep Run) and Nolan Prock (Virginia Beach, Va./Frank W. Cox) each had six kills.

EMU had 17 serve receive errors and just two service aces.

The Royals slide back to .500 with the loss at 6-6. The men are at the Endicott Invitational this weekend, playing Hilbert Saturday at 3:00pm and MIT at 5:00pm. After pool play completes, they will play two more matches on Sunday at 11:00am and 1:00pm at the invite in Beverly, Mass.
