Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles
Men’s Volleyball team took the Speidel Gymnasium court
against the Hawks of Hilbert College Thursday night for their final
home contest of the 2011 season. Elmira College was able to control
the match throughout en route to the 3-0 victory (25-17, 25-17,
25-17). With the win, EC improves their overall record to 11-19
this season.
Elmira College was led by first year player Ryan Gelenitis
’14 (Brick, NJ -- Christian Brothers Academy). Gelenitis
paced EC with 17 kills on 25 total attacks for a .600 attack
percentage. Michael Vellutato ’14 (Topanga, CA -- Redondo
Union) set up the EC attack with 38 set assists. Vellutato also
tallied 5 blocks. Brian Bowman ’11 (Lockport, NY --
Newfane) and Eric Sandmann ’14 (Glenville, NY -- Burnt Hills)
also contributed with 8 put-a-ways each. Defensive specialist
Brayden Abby ’14 (Sparta, NJ -- Pope John XXIII) led Elmira
with 13 digs.
Elmira’s next contest is at the UVC Championships on
Saturday against Stevens Tech. at 10:00 a.m. The UVC Championships
are hosted by Nazareth College in Rochester, NY.
