11th-Ranked MIT Sweeps Eagles, 3-0
Nashua – Junior Chris Shannon (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) notched a team high 10 kills and added six digs but 11th-ranked MIT hit .481 as a team on the way to a 3-0 sweep of the Eagles in a NECVA New England Divisional matchup Wednesday evening at the Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
David Thomas (Carlsbad, Cal.) hit .667 with 13 kills and one error and added a match high nine digs for the Engineers (17-4, 11-0 NECVA) who posted set scores of 25-17, 25-11 and 25-18. Matt Hohenberger (St. Louis, Mo.) added 12 kills and hit .625 while Tim Lee (Natick, Mass.) dished out 36 assists.
Joe Walz (East Longmeadow, Mass.) chipped in with five kills and a team best seven digs for the Eagles (4-7, 4-4 NECVA) while Kyle Clement (Weymouth, Mass.) handed out 17 assists.
MIT, which trailed only twice in the match, hit .594 in the opening set and committed only nine errors at the net all evening.
Daniel Webster returns to action on Saturday when they travel to Southern Vermont College for a divisional trimatch that includes Regis College. The DWC-SVC match will also serve as a New England Collegiate Conference matchup beginning at 11:00 a.m.
MIT visits Vassar College on Saturday as part of a trimatch that includes New Jersey City University beginning at 11:00 a.m.
