MSOE Sweeps CCNY
The City College of New York men’s volleyball team (7-15 Overall, 5-5 CUNYAC) dropped a non-conference match in front of a fired-up CCNY crowd on Wednesday evening, falling to Milwaukee School of Engineering (7-10 Overall) by scores of 17-25, 20-25, and 23-25 at the Nat Holman Gymnasium in Upper Manhattan.
The Beavers were unable to capture a set in the match, but City College fought valiantly and came close to forcing a fourth set when in the third set, CCNY grabbed a 22-21 lead. Following a Raiders timeout, Milwaukee School of Engineering would score four of the match’s final five points to grab a 25-23 lead and grabbing a 3-0 for the match.
Despite the loss for City College, it was Matthew Ng finishing his evening with a team-high nine kills to go along with five digs, a pair of digs, and a pair of block assists. Nicholas Siriban added six kills and three solo blocks, and Brian Yik Lim added 16 assists and four kills.
The Raiders used a balanced effort in picking up their victory, as the team was led by Chris Reininger who contributed nine kills and a pair of service aces. Matt Morrone tallied a match-high 25 assists, and Max Martin helped with six kills and three digs.
Milwaukee School of Engineering hit a whopping .305 for the night while the Beavers hit .206. The Raiders doubled-up the Beavers in assists, recording 38 to CCNY’s 19. The Beavers recorded 11 total blocks compared to six for Milwaukee School of Engineering.
The Beavers will return to action on Saturday morning as CCNY will host a multi-match at the Nat Holman Gymnasium. City College will battle Hunter College in a contest at 9:00am before battling the Cardinals of York College at 1:00pm.
