Score
LANGHORNE, PA - With five seniors playing within the
friendly confines of the Mason Activity Center for the final time
of their career Thursday evening, the Crimson Eagles halted a four
game skid by running past Ramapo College, 3-0.
The winningest class in PBU volleyball history helped the Crimson
Eagles tack on their 21st win of the season despite a valiant
effort from the Roadrunners down the stretch. The host group
ultimately prevailed, however, winning by scores of 25-19, 25-23,
27-25 to lock up their second straight undefeated season within
conference play.
The Crimson Eagles pummeled a .284 hitting percentage throughout
the contest while sprinkling 47 kills cross-court. PBU was
also aided by a stellar defensive effort that saw the group put up
14 block assists on the evening while collecting 35 total digs.
After breezing through the first set behind an 89 percent sideout
clip, the Crimson Eagles found themselves down 19-15 in game two. A
timeout by head coach Jade Brubaker proved effective, however, as
seven PBU kills down the stretch helped the host team slug out a
9-3 spurt to capture a 25-23 comeback victory.
A similar effort would be required during the third frame as the
Crimson Eagles fell into a 23-21 hole deep into the stanza. But
another whirlwind burst on the offensive front from PBU helped the
group rip off four more slams in the waning moments to close out
the period on a 6-2 run.
Fourth year senior Justin Brubaker - who currently leads the
nation in kills per set for the third straight year - posted his
13th 20-plus kill outing of the season, battering 20 spikes in 40
swings to go with 16 digs. Noah Prickett added 17 kills on a .448
hitting clip and Jon Rose chipped in with 10 defensive stops. Ethan
Mawhinney charted six block assists and Drew Dillon added 42
assists.
With a lone regular season contest remaining, the Crimson Eagles
will face traditional powerhouse Friday evening on the road in
Huntingdon, PA. Game time is 7:00 pm.
