Konopacki Leads Ramapo Over Kean, 3-2

Konopacki recorded a team leading 17 kills in a 3-2
victory for the Ramapo men's volleyball team over NECVA Metro rival
Kean University tonight at the Bradley Center. With the win the
Roadrunners improve to 15-9 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Kean
falls to 10-22 overall and 4-7 in the conference.
Ramapo opened the match with a 25-10 game one victory behind three
kills each from Andrew
Brown, Konopacki, and Brian
Colabella. The team went 12-24 with only three hitting
errors hitting .375 in the win. Rookie setter Andrew
Balint dished out ten assists and Brown led the defense
with three digs. Joel
Castro put down three blocks. The Cougars hit -.200 in
the game one loss with Steve
Vahalla and James Pompeo each recorded one of the team's
two kills in the game. Sam Haimann assisted on both kills and
Vahalla led the defense with three digs.
Rookie Mike
Kane led the Roadrunners to a 25-18 game two win hitting
.600 with one error on five attempts as his team went 13-27 with
five errors hitting .296. Konopacki added an additional three kills
to help his team to a two game match lead while senior Kevin
McNerney picked up a team leading four digs. Balint
assisted on 11 points and Brown recorded two blocks. Alx Draughan
led the Cougars with three kills in the game two loss hitting .125.
The team hit .000 with eight kills on 28 attempts with eight
errors. Haimann assisted on seven points and picked up two
digs.
Vahalla and Pompeo led the Cougar's offensive attack in game three
to earn a 25-22 win to close the match, 1-2. Kean combined hitting
.290 with 14 kills on31 attempts with five errors. Haimann dished
out 12 assists and Pompeo picked up a team leading three digs while
Eric Cooney put away two blocks. The Roadrunners combined hitting
.152 in the loss with 13 kills on 33 attempts and eight errors.
Konpacki led the way with four kills and Colin
McNeill added four of his own while Mike
Hrehovcik assisted on 11 points.
The Cougars evened the match score and forced a fifth and final
set with a 26-24 game four win behind seven kills from Vahalla.
Pompeo added three on offense while the team combined for 15 with
six errors on 26 attempts hitting .346. Haimann added nine assists
and Vahalla and Tom Kemmerle each picked up two digs. Konopacki put
away four kills leading Ramapo in the game four loss as the team
hit .409 with 12 kills on 22 attempts with three errors. Balint
picked up two digs and dished out 12 assists while adding one
service ace.
In the final game of the best-out-of-five match-up, Ramapo came
out on top, 15-12 earning a 3-2 victory in the Metro Conference
match-up. Konpacki and Castro led the team with three kills each as
the team combined for nine kills on 19 attempts with four errors.
Balint chipped in nine assists and Brown picked up three digs while
the team recorded two total blocks. Vahalla added three kills in
the game and the Cougars combined for four with five errors on 18
attempts hitting -0.56. Haimann dished out four assists and Michael
Fox picked up a team leading four digs.
Konpacki finished the night with a team leading 17 kills and
rookie Jeff
Jones added ten as the Roadrunners hit .288 with 59 total
kills on 125 attempts with 23 errors. Balint dished out 42 assists
and McNerney led the defense with ten digs while Konopacki recorded
a team high four blocks. Vahalla led the Cougars with 17 kills and
Pompeo added nine while Haimann assisted on 34 points. The defense
was led by Vahalla with eight digs and Cooney put down five blocks.
The team hit .106 in the five game loss with 43 kills on 123
attempts and 30 errors.
The Roadrunners return to action on Thursday, March 24th when they
travel to PBU for a 7pm NECVA Metro match-up in Langhorne, PA.
