Thiel Closes Regular Season With 3-2 Victory
GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College men’s volleyball
team closed out the regular season with a thrilling five-set
victory as they defeated the Soaring Eagles of Elmira College 3-2
on Tuesday in Greenville.
Thiel won the first two sets by scores of 29-27 and 26-24 before
Elmira fought back to take set three and four by scores of 25-23
and 25-12 respectively. Thiel then closed out the Soaring Eagles
with a 15-11 fifth-set win to get the 3-2 victory and improve their
record to 9-19 overall.
A total team effort helped the Tomcats secure the victory as four
different players recorded double-digit kills on the day. Andrew
Pohlod (Gibsonia, Pa., Pine-Richland) led the way with
16, Grant
Kocher (Venetia, Pa., Peters Township) had 14, Kyle
Turkalj (Greensburg, Pa., Hempfield) added 13 and Morgan
Carson (Winter Springs, Fla., Winter Springs) ended the
day with 12. Setter Corey
Hamilton (Meadville, Pa., Maplewood) set the table nicely
on the day as he registered 59 assists in the victory.
Defensively, Jacob
Schultz (Cochranton, Pa., Cochranton) recorded 24 digs
and Carson added 15.
Thiel will continue their season as they host the Midwest-III
Championships on Friday April 1 and Saturday April 2. The Tomcats
will play in the first game on Friday as they will compete against
the Milwaukee School of Engineering. First Serve is scheduled for 6
p.m.
