Heidelberg Reaches 20-Win Plateau

Bluffton, Ohio – October 6, 2010 – For the 10th time in the history of the program, and the fifth consecutive year, the Heidelberg University volleyball team has reached the 20-win mark. The Berg traveled to Bluffton University and swept the Beavers (25-23, 25-20, 25-15) to improve to 20-3 on the year. Eleventh-year head coach Jason Miller has guided the Berg to the 20-win plateau six of the last seven years.

No. 15 Heidelberg and Bluffton were both NCAA Championship qualifiers a season ago and played in the Great Lakes Regional hosted by Hope College.

Leading the way was Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) with a double-double that consisted of 13 kills and 10 digs. She also served up three aces. Backing Haase, and adding depth to the hitters, was Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) and Amber Welfle (Norwalk, Ohio / St. Paul) with eight and seven kills, respectively.

Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich. / Brighton) dished out 24 assists, while Alexa Frank (Tiffin, Ohio / Calvert) added 17, to go along with two service aces.

Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) had a team-high 11 digs followed by Haase and Brittany Donelan (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) with 10 each. Welfle led the blockers with four blocks.
