Lord Jeffs Rout Johnson & Wales 3-0 to Improve to 5-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Amherst College volleyball team routed
Johnson & Wales 3-0 this evening in non-conference contest at
the Harborside RAC on Tuesday evening. Amherst took the first set
by a score of 25-22, won set two with a score of 25-16 and wrapped
up the win with a 25-16 victory in the third and final frame.
Amherst was led by junior Christy Meier (San Anselmo, Calif.) with
11 kills and two digs, while sophomore Callie Neilson (Escondido,
Calif.) recorded 29 set assists and 10 digs for the Lord
Jeffs. Katherine Kanoff (Pacific Palisades, Calif.) had eight
kills and two digs in the victory for Amherst. Senior middle hitter
Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, CA) was impressive with nine kills in
just 13 total attacks for a hitting percentage of .692.
Senior Catherine Bravo (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) paced the Wildcats
with a triple double, recording 10 kills, 11 assists and 17 digs
while sophomore Michelle Johnson (North Kingstown, R.I.) had
11 digs and six kills for the Wildcats. Ashley Rey (Miami, Fla.)
added 16 assists and two digs in the loss for the Wildcats.
With the loss, JWU falls to 5-5 while Amherst improves to 5-1 for
the season. The Lord Jeffs will return to action this weekend by
hosting its annual home tournament. Amherst will take on both
Brandeis and Westfield State on Friday night, before wrapping up
play on Saturday against Coast Guard. NESCAC rival Middlebury will
also be on campus for the two day event.
