Benedictine Splits at Day Two of Eagle Classic

LISLE, Ill. – After defeating Augustana College in three straight sets, the Benedictine University volleyball team dropped a tough loss to Wheaton College in four sets in the second day of the Eagle Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles came from behind in the second set against
Augustana and won the game with a kill from Candice
Cuppini. Benedictine out-hit Augustana 38-24 in total
kills and had 56 digs compared to their 33 digs.
Against Wheaton, BenU easily won the first set 25-14, tallying
18 kills for a .419 hitting percentage. The Thunder came back and
won set two 25-17 before winning the next two 25-19, 25-16.
The Eagles hit .171 in the match, but had 30 attack errors
compared to Wheaton’s 12. Benedictine out-dug WC 77-60 and
both teams had four blocks.

Hoppe and Kara
Zuro each had 23 assists while Leyden led all players
with 23 kills and had 17 digs. Jackie
Rust led all players with 19 digs while Cuppini had 11
kills of her own.
The Eagles are back in action on Tuesday, Nov. 2 when they
host the first round of the Northern Athletics Conference
Tournament against Wisconsin Lutheran at 7:00 p.m. in the Rice
Center.
