Efficient Offense Earns Cal Lu Pair of Wins

LA VERNE, Calif. - It was a milestone Saturday as two members of the Cal Lutheran volleyball program joined elite company following a pair of victories at the Leopard Invite. CLU middle Allison Kerr picked up career kill No. 1,000 in the morning win and Head Coach Kellee Roesel win No. 98 moving into second all-time in CLU coaching history in the finale victory.

Cal Lutheran 3, Schreiner 1 - F
Despite the match going four sets Cal Lutheran dominated throughout most of the contest taking its three sets by margins of 25-9 in the first, 25-15 in the third and 25-11 to close it out.

Megan Thorpe led the Regals with 18 kills and hit at a season-high .405 clip when recording 10 or more attempts. Casy McWhirk hit an efficient .483 and collected a career-high 15 kills.

In the second set Allison Kerr put down career kill No. 1,000 and is one of five CLU players to reach the milestone.

Coach Roesel tied former coach Don Hyatt (1980-84) picking up career win No. 97.

Cal Lutheran 3, Endicott 0 - F
Roesel took over sole possession of the second spot on the CLU coaching wins list after the Regals downed Endicott in three sets by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-16.

It was more of the same efficient offense as Cal Lutheran hit .379 as a team and held Endicott to only .141 for the match.

Kerr led the offense with 14 kills and matched her career-high with six aces. As a team Cal Lutheran recorded 12 service aces including a pair from McWhirk and Thorpe.

The trio combined for 35 kills against Endicott while the opposition totaled just 23 in all.

Kerr and Thorpe compiled 27 kills while McWhirk had an efficient eight kills on 18 attempts hitting .444 for the contest.

Jackie Russell dished out 44 assists in Saturday's finale and 91 on the day.

Cal Lutheran (15-3) has won 15 straight matches and will host the two-day CLU Fall Classic starting Friday, Oct. 15.
