Carnegie Mellon Tripped Up At UAA Play

Oct. 3 – (ATLANTA, Ga.) – The Carnegie Mellon
University volleyball team played two ranked opponents during the
second day of University Athletic Association (UAA) play in
Atlanta, Georgia, and fell 3-0 to #3 Emory University and 3-2 to
#23 New York University. The Tartans are now 9-11 on the year and
0-3 in UAA play.
Against Emory, the Tartans fell 25-18, 25-15, 25-19. Freshman
Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly) collected 22
assists while freshman Senna Parsa (Bellevue,
Wash./Newport) led with 10 kills. Parsa also had eight digs and two
block assists. Freshman Olivia Mora (San Antonio,
Texas/Saint Mary's Hall) led with three block assists while senior
Cameron Griffin (Lake Forest, Ill.) had 12
digs.
The Tartans held a 2-1 led on New York after winning the first set
25-23 and the second set 25-20. New York took set two 25-16 and set
tied the match with a 25-10 set four win. The fifth set went to the
wire as New York won 15-13.
Defense was a big part of the Tartans game as five players had
double digit digs. Griffin led with 21 as Parsa had 20. Freshman
Ali Nichols (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) had 16 digs,
junior Kristin Castellano (New Canaan, Conn./Taft)
had 15 and Wright had 11. The team was also tall at the net as Mora
had two block solos and five block assists. Parsa and junior
Maddie Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) had
four block assists apiece as Rosnick also had a block solo. Wright
had 27 assists on offense as senior Caroline Size
(Lewes, Del./Saint Thomas More Academy) led with 13 kills. Senior
Aislinn McCloskey (Lafayette, La.) had nine kills
as she hit .269 for the match.
The Tartans will next be in action at the second round robin for
the UAA in Waltham, Mass., when they face the University of
Rochester at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 16.
