The six teams that will compete in the 2010 CAC playoffs were already finalized before Salisbury's win Friday 3-0 at Hood and Frostburg State's 3-0 win Saturday at St. Mary's. But the Bobcats' win Saturday clinched the school's first regular-season title since joining the CAC and top seed in the 2010 conference playoffs.
FSU improved to 27-3 overall, 7-0 in the CAC and has a two-game lead over York, Mary Washington and Salisbury with one match to go for all. The Bobcats will get a bye in the first round of the CAC playoffs (11/2), then host a semifinal match on 11/4 against the winner of the first-round contest between the No. 4 seed and the No. 5 seed.
The three-way tie for second place will be broken Wednesday (10/27) when York visits three-time defending CAC champion Salisbury. On the same night, Mary Washington travels to Marymount.
Also Wednesday, fifth-place St. Mary's will play at sixth-place Stevenson to determine the final two seeds in the CAC Tournament.
A win by St. Mary's could gain the Seahawks anywhere from third to fifth seed in the playoffs, depending on what happens with the teams tied for second place. If Stevenson wins, the Mustangs would gain the fifth seed in the CAC Tournament and SMC would be sixth.
Frostburg State and Stevenson both won two matches Saturday. In addition to the CAC win over St. Mary's, FSU downed Messiah 3-0 in a non-conference match. Stevenson posted shutout wins over Ursinus and Rowan Saturday.
