Red Dragons Take Down Tigers, 3-1

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - Juniors Ashley Coyle (Mt. Hope/Minisink
Valley), Sheena Asibey (Brentwood) and Kaitlyn Cooper
(Webster/Webster Schroeder), along with sophomore Katie Wick
(Cortland/Homer), each registered double-figure kills as
Cortland defeated host RIT, 3-1, in a non-conference dual match.
With the win, the Red Dragons improve to 17-4 on the season. RIT
had a six-match win streak snapped and is now 12-5.
Cortland won the opening set, 25-21, but lost 25-19 in the second
set. The Red Dragons won a tight third set, 25-23, and pulled away
for a 25-15 victory in the fourth set to claim the match. In the
key third set, Cortland led 6-0 before RIT rallied and eventually
led 22-20. The Red Dragons responded to tally five of the next six
points to win the set.
Coyle finished with 19 kills and 15 digs to lead the Red Dragons.
Asibey put down 14 kills and added two blocks and Cooper recorded
12 kills. Wick recorded 12 kills and 16 digs and sophomore
Kristen Guercio (Smithtown/Smithtown East) dished out 53 assists
for more than a 13 assist-per-set average.
Cortland will host Ithaca College in a dual match next Tuesday,
Oct. 5, at 7 p.m.
