Reilly Named MVP As Stevens Takes Vassar Tournament Title

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.
(October 30, 2010) – Senior libero Julia Reilly led
the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s volleyball team
to the Vassar College Tournament title, earning Most Valuable
Player honors for her efforts. The Ducks opened up the second day
of competition with a hard-fought, 3-2 (25-15, 14-25, 12-25, 25-21,
19-17), come-from-behind victory over the host Brewers, before
capturing the Tournament crown with a decisive, 3-0 (25-17, 25-19,
25-16) triumph over King’s College.
Senior outside hitter Maggie Majcher, who joined Reilly on the
all-tournament team, helped lead the Ducks attack in their match
against Vassar, recording nine kills, while adding 21 digs. Junior
Amethyst Holder added 15 kills in the win, while sophomore standout
Maggie Kowalska finished with eight kills and four blocks. Reilly
collected 25 digs in defense, while senior setter Sara Budar
chipped in with 30 assists and 13 digs.
Majcher again paved the way in Stevens’ sweep of
King’s, tallying 12 kills. Sophomore Michelle Plotzker and
Kowalska added nine and eight kills, respectively, while freshman
outside hitter Chrissy Dickinson had 10 spikes. Fellow freshman
Samantha Gates dished out 11 assists while directing the
Ducks’ offense, with Reilly adding 11 digs.
With the wins, Stevens closes out its regular season with 32-5
overall mark and a 5-3 mark against Empire 8 opponents.
