Elmira Claims Second Place at ECAC Upstate Championship
Elmira, NY -- The Elmira College Soaring Eagles Women’s
Volleyball team claimed second place honors at the 2010 Division
III Metro-Upstate Women’s Volleyball Championship Saturday
afternoon at Elmira College. Elmira College finishes the 2010
season with an overall record of 28-8 this year, the teams largest
win total since the 1999 season.
In the first ECAC semifinal match Saturday afternoon the Soaring
Eagles swept the Cardinals in three straight sets, (25-23, 25-20,
25-13). Elmira College was led offensively in the match by Brittany
Raykoske ’12 (Johnstown, NY -- Gloversville). Raykoske hit
double figures in kills for EC with 10 and also recorded 3 serve
aces in the win. Empire 8 Player of the Year Sasha Zavadska
’13 (Bratislava, SVK -- The British School) was also a main
contributor with 9 kills and 7 digs. First year standout Taryn
Rumsey ’14 (Mansfield, PA -- Mansfield) and Chelsea Needham
’11 (Middletown, NY -- Middletown) balanced EC’s
offensive attack with 7 kills each.
Elmira College met FDU-Florham in the ECAC championship match
after the Devils defeated Ramapo in four sets. FDU-Florham was able
to take the first two sets to take command of the match, but the
Soaring Eagles showed their resiliency battling back to take the
third set. The fourth set of the match was close throughout, but it
was the Devils that would take the set and the match 3-1, (25-15,
25-20, 22-25, 25-22).
