Matt Troy Named Johns Hopkins Volleyball Coach

May 17, 2010

BALTIMORE, MD - Johns Hopkins Director of Athletics Tom Calder announced the appointment of Matt Troy as the head women's volleyball coach. Troy becomes the eighth head coach in the 26-year history of the program and replaces Greg Giovanazzi, who guided Johns Hopkins during the 2008 and 2009 seasons.

"We are excited to announce the addition of Matt Troy to our coaching staff," said Calder. "His experience, leadership abilities and familiarity with the Centennial Conference made him an ideal candidate for this position and we look forward to working with him as he leads our volleyball program."

Troy comes to Johns Hopkins after serving as the head coach at Howard Community College for one season. In his first season with the Dragons, he led the team to an 18-16 record and a third place finish in the conference with a 10-2 mark, as well as the top seed in the regional tournament. Troy also coached three of his players to All-Region honors.

Troy has been the head coach of the Carroll Viper Volleyball Club for the past three years and spent one season as an assistant coach at Gettysburg College. He currently teaches at Linganore High School in Frederick, MD. Troy is a 2002 graduate of West Virginia University with a bachelor's degree in physical education and health. In 2009, he completed his master's from West Virginia in athletic coaching education.

Johns Hopkins finished the 2009 season with a 16-10 overall record and a 5-5 record in the Centennial Conference. The Blue Jays will return nine players next season and will open the 2010 season on September 3 when they host the JHU Invitational.
