New York, NY - On Tuesday night, November 2, the #1 seeded Hawks hosted the #8 seeded Dolphins of the College of Staten Island in the quarterfinal round of the CUNYAC / EmblemHealth women’s volleyball championship. All it took was three sets for Hunter to secure their spot in the semifinal round as the Dolphins end their season by way of 25-9, 25-15, 25-12 match scores.

The Hawks came out firing with 16 kills in the first, seven of which came from junior outside hitter, Mallory Grubler. Hunter rolled through the first game with a 14 point margin and momentum on their side heading into the second game. The Dolphins struggled to hit their stride and could not manage to spark any offense as they would only be able to put together 15 points in the second to fall behind two games to none. In the third and final set, despite staying even with the Hawks through the first six points, Hunter proved to be just too much to handle as they hammered home 14 kills in the third and final set.

For the Hawks, Grubler had a game high 16 kills while Christine Luebcke had eight and senior Rodesha Donaldson chipped in with seven. Katina Boutis recorded 28 assists while Kim Hirten posted nine digs. On the Dolphin’s side, Joanna Tepedino led her team with five kills, Danielle Ponsiglione tallied seven assists and Diana Stout had five digs.

The semifinal and championship games will be held at the Hunter Sportsplex on Friday, November 5 with the following schedule:

4:00 pm - #2 Baruch vs. winner of #3 CCNY
6:00 pm - #1 Hunter vs. Winner of #4 Lehman
