The Pride trailed in the first game from the start and was down 24-17 before coming back to win.

"That was a great win and an amazing comeback to win set one after trailing 15-5," Lojko said. "It's extra special to get the win against a very good Guilford team. I think my team played with extra enthusiasm in order to get the victory for me."

Sha McDuffie (Winston-Salem, NC/Parkland) had 13 kills and Brittany Hunsucker (Jamestown, NC/Ragsdale) added 11 for GC (5-2). Dana Sandknop (Summerfield, NC/Northwest Guilford) had 25 assists and 6 kills. Brittany Freeman led Guilford (5-2) with 11 kills.

Lojko began the season ranked 7th all-time in wins among Division III women's volleyball coaches. After the ritual dousing in sports drink – players let her remove her watch first – she pledged that the team would never do so again.

“All I do is yell at y'all in practice,” Lojko told the team afterward, “but I have to say that was one of the most amazing first-game comebacks I've ever seen.”

“Oh, we'll do it at 1,000,” one player responded.
