Macalester names Annie Glieber new volleyball coach
Macalester College has selected Annie Glieber
as its new head volleyball coach, the St. Paul, Minnesota, school
announced today. Glieber comes to Macalester from Carroll
University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where she served as head coach
for the past five years.
Glieber takes over the program from Stephanie Schleuder, who has
retired from coaching following 12 years in charge of the
Macalester program and 34 years as a collegiate head coach.
At Carroll, Glieber rebuilt a last-place Midwest Conference team
and guided the Pioneers to the 2007 MWC conference and conference
tourney championship and the program’s first-ever berth in
the NCAA playoffs. She was selected by her peers at Midwest
Conference Coach of the Year following the 2006 and 2007 campaigns.
At Carroll, she was also the Senior Woman Administrator and the
Director of the Recreation Sports program.
“I am excited about the opportunity to become a part of the
Macalester community and its strong academic and athletic
traditions,” said Glieber. “I look forward to the
challenge of leading the Scots volleyball program and building on
the success Coach Schleuder has had over the past 12
years.”
“I am pleased to welcome Annie to the coaching staff and to
the Macalester community” said Macalester Director of
Athletics Kim Chandler. “Annie’s experiences as a coach
and student-athlete are exemplary and she will bring energy and
experience to our program that will provide outstanding leadership
in moving our program forward. She is extremely well respected
among her colleagues for her work ethic, recruitment efforts and
her tactical skills in building the program at Carroll University,
and I have the utmost confidence in her ability to transfer these
skills to the Macalester program.”
Glieber grew up in Milwaukee, starred at Pius XI High School, and
attended NCAA Division I Austin Peay State (Tenn.), where she was
the starting setter for four seasons and graduated Cum Laude in
2001 with a degree in Special Education. She was team captain as a
junior and senior and finished with 4,885 career assists. Glieber
finished as the school’s all-time leader in assists and in
her senior season, she led the NCAA with eight triple doubles and
was named honorable mention All-Ohio Valley Conference.
While completing her Master of Science degree in Physical Education
/ Exercise and Sport Science at the University of Central Missouri,
Glieber served under legendary Division II head coach Peggy Martin
from 2003-05 before taking charge of the Carroll program in
2005.
