Methodist Volleyball Wins Two

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Methodist volleyball won two USA South
Athletic Conference volleyball matches on Sunday over Shenandoah
University and Averett University.
Methodist opened the USA South tri-match with a 3-1 (25-19, 11-25,
25-12, 25-17) win over Shenandoah. The Monarchs jumped out to a
quick 7-1 start in the first set and led by as many as eight before
the Hornets closed the gap to four points at 23-19. Methodist
finished with the 25-19 win on a kill by Lauren
Bramble.
Roles were reversed in the second set as Shenandoah jumped out to
the 7-1 lead and cruised to the 25-11 win. The Monarchs responded
in the third set with a 13-6 lead and finished with the 25-12 win.
Methodist opened the fourth set with the 14-4 advantage and
finished with the 25-17 win.
Bramble led the team with 17 kills and Jalesty
Washington added 10. Kayci
Miller finished with 41 assists and nine digs while
Hillary
McPhatter paced the team with 13 digs.
In the final match of the day Methodist won 3-1 (25-21, 25-23,
17-25, 25-22) over Averett University. The Cougars took the 16-11
lead, but Methodist battled back to tie the set at 18 on a kill
from Stephanie
Wood. The Monarchs finished with the 25-21 win.
Methodist kept up the pressure in the second set jumping out to a
14-6 lead after back-to-back blocks and a kill from Bramble.
Averett moved within one at 22-21, but the Monarchs held onto win
25-23. The Cougars jumped out to the 7-2 lead in the third set and
finished with the 25-17 win to force a fourth set.
The Monarchs took the 6-3 advantage early, before Averett tied it
at 10. Both teams went back and forth, but Methodist never trailed
as they earned the 25-22 win.
Bramble led the team with 14 kills while Wood finished with 13
kills. Miller had 36 assists and 19 digs. McPhatter added 17
digs.
The Monarchs will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel
to N.C. Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. match.
