Methodist Keeps Streak Alive

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Methodist volleyball team won their
10th straight match on Tuesday night to advance to the USA South
Tournament Semifinal. Methodist finished with the 3-1 (25-17,
23-25, 25-17, 25-23) win.
Averett opened the first set with an 8-3 lead before the Monarchs
went on a 12-2 run to go ahead 15-10. During the run Methodist's
Lauren
Bramble and Stephanie
Wood had two aces a piece. Methodist kept up the pressure
as they finished with the 25-17 win on a kill by Bramble.
The second set was back and forth before Methodist took the 11-6
lead. Averett tied the set at 21, 22 and 23 before finishing with
consecutive points to win 23-25. The Monarchs battled back in the
third set and capitalized on Cougar errors to lead 21-15. Methodist
won the set at 25-17 to go ahead 2-1 in the match.
The Monarchs took the early 10-4 lead in the fourth set behind the
serving of Kristen
Robinson. Averett battled back to tie the set at 15, but
Methodist never trailed as they finished with the 25-23 win.
Bramble led the team with 18 kills while Jalesty
Washington had 12 kills and a team-high 15 digs. Wood
added nine kills and eight blocks.
The Monarchs advance to face top-seeded Christopher Newport on
Friday in the 7:30 p.m. semifinal. [Tournament Web Site]. Averett
