Millikin Upsets Carthage to Take Share of CCIW Title

The Millikin Volleyball team earned at a least a share of the 2010 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title with a 3-2 upset win at #7 Carthage in Kenosha, Wis. on Oct. 20.
Millikin’s victory accomplished something no other CCIW team has done since 2003. The Big Blue victory snapped Carthage’s CCIW regular season winning streak which was at 49 straight matches.
Millikin won the first set 28-26. Carthage then rallied to win 25-22 in the second set and 25-23 in the third set. Carthage took an early lead in the fourth set, but the Big Blue rallied to win 25-20.
The match was decided in the fifth and final set with the Big Blue scoring the sets first five points and cruising to a 15-5 win.
Millikin is now 23-5 and 6-0 in CCIW play. The Big Blue’s next match is Oct. 26 when they host Augustana to close out the conference season. Carthage is now 18-7, 5-1.
