New York University has selected Jolie
Ward as its new women's volleyball head coach. She joins
NYU with 13 years of head coaching experience, including the last
two at Princeton University, where she served as Head Women's
Volleyball Coach and Director of Men's and Women's Volleyball.
“Jolie has all of the attributes we were looking for in the
next coach of the NYU's women's volleyball team,” said
Christopher
Bledsoe, NYU's Director of Athletics, Intramurals &
Recreation. “She is an experienced professional. She
understands how to recruit and coach the NYU-caliber
student-athlete. And, she is a New Yorker who knows and loves this
community.”
In her two seasons at Princeton, Jolie's teams compiled a 24-26
record, including a 13-12 overall mark and 8-6 Ivy League record in
2010.
Prior to her stint at Princeton, Jolie spent one year as the head
coach at Division I Manhattan College, five seasons at Eastern
Connecticut State University and three seasons at Farmingdale State
College.
Overall in her 13 seasons, Jolie's teams have compiled a 225-188
record, three NCAA Tournament appearances and three Little East
Conference Championships.
“It's a unique opportunity for me to be able to return to my
home city and coach a program that is an annual NCAA Championship
contender,” Jolie said. “I will have a chance to work
with the same type of academically-focused
student-athletes who are being recruited by the Ivy
League.”
Chris
Pinto, who served as interim head coach in 2010 and led
NYU to an Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Division III Women's
Volleyball Championship, returns to the NYU men's volleyball bench
after having earned a well-deserved promotion to Associate Head
Coach.
Pinto served as Assistant Coach for the past three seasons.
“We are enormously grateful for Coach Pinto's efforts and
skilled leadership in guiding this year's team,” Bledsoe
said. “We are so pleased we were able to identify from within
our own department someone capable of this large responsibility and
that he could fill this role so well for NYU. This is a home run
for NYU volleyball and our student-athletes.”
A 1997 graduate of Stony Brook University with a Bachelor of Arts
degree in psychology, Ward added a Master of Science degree in
education from Dowling College in 2000. She takes over a Violets
team that finished 38-6 overall in 2010 and was ranked #12 in the
final American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III
Coaches Top 25 Poll.
A native of Bellport, NY, Ward resides in Manhattan.
