NYU-Poly earns second straight Skyline women's volleyball title with 3-0 victory over Mount Saint Mary

NYU-Poly defeats Mount Saint Mary - 25-21, 25-15, 25-23 (Box Score)

NEWBURGH, N.Y. – Senior outside hitter Meredith Shipman had 16 kills and 15 digs to lead second-seeded Polytechnic Institute of NYU to a 3-0 (25-21, 25-15, 25-23) victory over top-seeded Mount Saint Mary in the championship match of the Skyline Conference women's volleyball tournament.  The Fighting Blue Jays earned their second straight conference title and NCAA tournament bid.

Mount Saint Mary (21-10) advanced to the final with a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State.  NYU-Poly (20-19) moved on with a 3-0 win over Old Westbury.

Shipman was named the tournament’s most valuable player for the second consecutive year. She also totaled 15 kills and 12 digs in their semifinal victory over Old Westbury.  Junior Victoria Kalvert contributed eight kills while sophomore Corey Loupee added seven.

Freshman Kaylene Pennings led the Knights with seven kills and five blocks, while sophomore Mary Ann Raftery, junior Jacqueline Nadeau, and junior Courtney Kenney each chipped in with five kills. Sophomore Lauren Halverson had 20 assists and a team-high 10 digs.

With the championship, NYU-Poly clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Mount Saint Mary awaits word on a potential selection to the ECAC Regional Tournament on Monday.
