Ramapo Downs John Jay

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women’s volleyball team
opened up the 2010 season with a 3-0 (25-7, 25-13, 25-5) shutout
victory over John Jay College at the Bradley Center. The
Roadrunners stand at 1-0 while the Bloodhounds fall to 0-1 to start
the season.
Junior Maura
Burke (Wyckoff, NJ) led the Roadrunners with seven kills
as she hit .600 on the night; she also recorded three service aces.
Junior Michelle
Ferrari (Marlton, NJ) added five kills and a team high
seven digs while junior Tiffany
Fischer (Woodcliff Lake, NJ) tallied a team high 24
assists and six service aces.
In game one Ramapo hit .556 (11-18) to take the game, 25-7. The
Roadrunners combined for eight service aces during game one as
Fischer and junior Allison
DiAngelo (Clifton, NJ) each tallied three apiece.
There were four lead changes and the score was tied seven times
during game two as Ramapo came away with a 25-13 win going into
game three. Burke led the Roadrunners once again with five kills
and three service aces. Ferrari added one service ace and a game
high five digs while sophomore Julia
Tuzio (Paramus, Nj) added two kills, one assist and one
dig. In game three, Ramapo led the entire game as they went on two
big runs to close out the 25-5 win. Fischer would serve first for
Ramapo and she would lead the team to ten straight points before
serving the ball out, 10-1.
John Jay’s Crystal Reyes recorded a service ace before
Ramapo would go on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to 18-2. John
Jay would snap the run with a kill by Rosmary Martinez and a Ramapo
error, 18-4. The Bloodhounds and Roadrunners would trade points
through 22-5 before Ramapo ended the game with a service ace by
rookie Ashley
Vandenbulcke (Toms River, NJ), a kill by Burke and an
attack error by John Jay, 25-5.
The Roadrunners hit .358 for the match while recording 20 service
aces and 19 total digs.
The Roadrunners return to action when they travel to Stevens
Institute on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 PM
