Ripon Red Hawks Win Barnburner In Five Sets

RIPON, Wis. - Ripon went the distance in Tuesday's game against Marian (Wis.) University, winning in five sets, 25-21, 20-25, 25-15, 19-25, 15-12. The game went back-and-forth all night with Marian holding the edge in kills by a 44-43 count. Ripon finished with 14 blocks, while the Sabres recorded 11. That marks the sixth consecutive match the Red Hawks have defeated Marian, with the last two going five sets as well.

The Red Hawks (4-7) were led by Anna Alvin's 15 kills, which moves her into third place among the school's career kill leaders. She also finished with one block solo and four block assists and a hitting percentage of .242. Lisa Aguilar was second on the team with 11 blocks, to go along with two service aces, seven digs and three block assists. Setting that duo up all night long was Alison Ernst, who registered 35 assists. Senior Ashley Kirst was tops on the team in digs with 17, while freshman Karlye Wehner recorded 14.

Carlie Kinsey helped keep Marian (3-6) in the match with a team-high 11 kills and 12 digs. Elizabeth Zutz added nine kills, while Katie Reimer recorded a team-best 13 digs. Michielah Navis led the way with 31 assists, two block solos and two block assists in the losing effort.

Ripon will hope to build momentum off the win, as they will compete in this weekend's Titan Invitational. The two-day event will begin Friday, with the Red Hawks taking on Aurora and Martin Luther College. Their first game will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Oshkosh, Wis.
