Richard Stockton Wins 4th Straight Match

(Pomona, NJ) – Richard Stockton (21-7, 8-0 NJAC) swept
Montclair State (4-27, 3-5) 25-10, 25-
9, 25-12 to finish unbeaten in conference play during the regular
season. Christine Velott
(Moorestown/Moorestown) led the Ospreys to their fourth straight
win overall with a team-high
12 kills plus seven digs. Nicole Serekian (Mahwah/Mahwah) spiked
eight kills and Christine
Astarita (Selden, NY/Newfield) paced the Stockton defense with 19
digs.
Marta Topor (Bogota/Bogota) topped Montclair State with six
kills and Megan Cockcroft
(Rutherford/Rutherford) added four kills. Kaitlyn Irwin
(Cranford/Cranford), the NJAC
leader in digs, registered 11 digs while Bella Millstein
(Edison/J.P. Stevens) contributed eight
digs and six assists for the Red Hawks.
Serekian helped propel Stockton to an early lead with four kills
on four attacks in the first set,
which the Ospreys won 25-10. Velott led Stockton to a 25-9 victory
in the middle set with four
kills. Topor slammed three kills for Montclair in the third set,
but Velott countered with five
kills for Stockton as the Ospreys closed out the match 25-12.
Both teams will wrap up the regular season this weekend and head
into the NJAC tournament
next week. Stockton will play DeSales and Neumann in a tri-match at
Neumann on Saturday.
Montclair State will compete in the Hunter Invitational on Saturday
and Sunday.
