St Thomas tops No. 20 Cobbers, posts first AARC win

The St. Thomas volleyball team claimed the school's first victory in the new Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex with Wednesday night's 3-1 victory over Concordia-Moorhead.

The 15th-ranked Tommies topped the 20th-ranked Cobbers 25-14, 14-25, 25-19, 25-19.

Thanh Pham coached his 250th match in eight seasons as the Tommie head coach and moved closer to 200 victories (197-53).

Five seniors led the way for the Tommies (12-3 overall, 3-1 MIAC), who have won seven in a row and 11 of their last 12 matches. Katie Bonine had 14 kills and 12 digs; Emily Foster had 39 assists and six digs; Tori Jones had 11 kills and hit .333; Jill Osborne hit .303, had 10 kills and three blocks; and Molly Staton recorded three aces. Soph Kaitlain Wachter added 20 digs.

The Cobbers (12-4, 3-1) had a six-match win streak halted. Jenna Green had 10 kills and 16 digs; Katie Vohnoutka had 13 kills; Alison Bruggeman had five blocks and seven digs; and Danelle Loomis added 10 digs.

Both teams play four matches this Friday and Saturday in the Iowa-Minnesota-Border Battle in St. Joseph on the St. Ben's campus. Cornell, Luther, Simpson and Wartburg are the opponents.
