UW-Platteville sweeps Eagles in WIAC quarterfinals

UW-Platteville earned its 18th sweep of the season defeating UW-La Crosse, 25-16, 25-15, 25-12, in WIAC Tournament quarterfinals on Tuesday night in Williams Fieldhouse.
Freshman Stephanie Kirchner led the 19th-ranked Pioneers with 11 kills and three block assists. Melanie Bailiff and Melissa Hillebrand each added 10 kills to the Pioneers 47 total. Senior Abby Carey led the defense with 14 digs, followed by Leslie White with eight digs.
The Eagles' Katie Gunderson led the offense with nine kills.
The Pioneers improved to 29-3, while the Eagles end their season 11-18.
UW-Platteville brings its 17-match winning streak to the WIAC Final Four on Friday at UW-Eau Claire against UW-Oshkosh at 5 p.m. The Titans are one of just three teams to beat the Pioneers this season.
