W&L Volleyball Advances In NCAAs, 3-1, Over Mt. St. Joseph
ATLANTA, Ga. – The Washington and Lee volleyball team
defeated Mt. St. Joseph, 3-1, on Friday evening in the first round
of the NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championships hosted by
Emory University.
W&L (28-6) posted its first NCAA Tournament win since the 2006
season with the 17-25, 26-24, 25-20, 30-28 win over the Lions
(21-11). The Generals were led by first-year outside hitter M.A.
Boles (Houston, Texas/St. John's), who totaled 14 kills and 14
digs. Junior outside hitter Megan
Daily (Birmingham, Ala./Mountain Brook) and senior middle
blocker Louise
Brooks (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr) totaled 10 kills apiece.
Junior middle blocker Lindsey
Dee (Tallahassee, Fla./Maclay School) added seven kills and six
blocks, Brooks chipped in four blocks and Boles had three.
First-year setter Nikki
DelZenero (Willowbrook, Ill./Hinsdale Central) led the Generals
with 32 assists and also had eight digs.
Sophomore libero Cameron
Hill (Tampa, Fla./H.B. Plant) had a team-high 23 digs and
senior defensive specialist Jenna
Finger (Homer Glen, Ill./Lockport Township) notched 17.
With the win, the Generals will now play the winner of No. 1 seed
Emory University and No. 8 seed Piedmont College on Saturday at
6:00 pm.
