CSAC Volleyball End of Year Awards Announced

2011 CSAC Volleyball Awards

ASTON, PA: The Colonial States Athletic Conference has announced its year end awards for the 2011 season, including Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, First, Second, and Honorable Mention All-Conference, and All-Sportsmanship Teams. These have been voted upon by the conference’s head coaches.

Centenary College junior setter Jelena Markovic (Hrcko, Boznia and Herzegovina/The Economic School) has been named the 2011 CSAC Volleyball Player of the Year. Markovic put together a solid season across the board. She led the conference – and all of NCAA Division-III – with 180 aces (1.7/set), while averaging 2.6 kills, 2.7 digs, and 3.9 assists. In addition to topping the nation in aces, she also was among national leaders in points per set, averaging 4.5 to rank 34th. A 2010 First Team All-CSAC pick, Markovic was named CSAC Player of the Week three times during the 2011 campaign, earning the honors on Oct. 30th, Sep. 26th, and Sept. 5th. She helped lead the Cyclones to a 7-4 CSAC record in 2011, earning the fifth seed in the upcoming CSAC Championship Tournament.

Neumann University OH/MH  Katie Young (Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) was selected as the 2011 CSAC Rookie of the Year. A graduate student at Neumann, Young had not played volleyball since her high school days, but emerged as one of her teams’ top hitters. In 32 matches, Young put down 181 kills (1.5/set), while also totaling 62 digs and 45 blocks.

Cabrini College’s Eric Schaefer has been selected 2011 CSAC Coach of the Year after guiding the Cavaliers to a perfect 11-0 conference mark, and a 20-10 record overall. The favorites in the 2011 CSAC preseason coaches poll, Cabrini won nine of its 11 conference matches in straight sets, and finished the regular season as the conference leaders in hitting percentage (.252), kills/set (11.7), and blocks/set (1.6).
