The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced members of the 2011 All-SUNYAC Volleyball team in addition to the players and rookies of the year from the East and West Divisions and the Coach of the Year.
Herbst is the second New Paltz defensive specialist in as many years to earn SUNYAC East Rookie of the Year honors. She is the fourth Rookie of the Year in program history. Midway through the season, Herbst carved out a spot in the starting lineup and maintained the position, helping the Hawks lead the SUNYAC in digs per set (18.04). She totaled 236 digs on the year (2.36 per set) and also added 34 service aces. New Paltz (26-11, 6-2 conf) appeared in the SUNYAC final for the fourth straight year and has won at least 26 matches every year since 2004.
Lis is the first Fredonia player to earn Player of the Year honors since 2008 when Kaitlin Erdmann won the award. In 2011, Liz recorded 1,235 assists, third highest single-season total by a Blue Devil. She finished with 2,969 career assists, also third-best in program history. Defensively, she had 340 digs in 2011 and 1,200 over four seasons, the sixth-best total by a Blue Devil. It was the third straight season Lis has been named West Division First Team. The Blue Devils finished with the best SUNYAC Pool Play record in the West Division for the fifth straight season. They were 26-11 overall.
SUNYAC Announces Volleyball Awards: Coyle and Hoerup Repeat
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced members of the 2011 All-SUNYAC Volleyball team in addition to the players and rookies of the year from the East and West Divisions and the Coach of the Year.
In the East Division, Cortland senior Ashley Coyle
(Mt. Hope, NY/Minisink Valley) repeated as the Player of
the Year while the Rookie of the Year honor went to New Paltz's
Katy Herbst (Webster, N.Y./Webster
Schroeder). On the west
side, Fredonia’s Brittany Lis (Lancaster,
NY/Lancaster) took Player of the Year honors and
Brockport’s Jamie Snyder (Elmira,
NY/Thomas Edison) was selected the Rookie of the
Year.
Cortland's seventh-year head coach Pam Hoerup
has been chosen as the 2011 Coach of the Year, as voted on by the
conference coaches. Hoerup guided the Red Dragons to its second
straight and 18th overall SUNYAC title. Cortland brings a 39-1
record into the NCAA Division III tournament, the most wins in a
season for Hoerup. The Red Dragons will open at Clarkson against
Southern Vermont College (30-2) in the NCAA first round on Friday,
Nov. 11, at 5:30 p.m.
Coyle led the Red Dragons to a No. 1 seed in the East Division
with an 8-0 conference record. The outside hitter currently
has 449 kills on the season, which ranks sixth all-time in a season
at Cortland. She is averaging 3.38 kills per set with a .220 attack
percentage. Coyle is second on the squad with 3.17 digs per set.
She has recorded double -figure kills in 26 of 40 matches,
including a season high of 20 kills against Ithaca. She matched her
season high against New Paltz in the SUNYAC Championship match
where she was named the Tournament MVP.

A second team All-SUNYAC selection, Snyder is the third Golden
Eagle in ten years to earn West Rookie of the Year honors. Snyder
was one of the top Golden Eagles in nearly all statistical
categories with 158 kills (3rd on the team), 34 aces (4th), 281
digs (3rd) and 45 blocks (2nd). She played in all 37 matches for
Brockport and collected a season high 12 kills against Bridgewater
State and picked up 19 digs verse RIT.
