Penn State-Altoona Wins Second-Ever AMCC Title, Topping Pitt-Bradford 3-0
ALTOONA, Pa. - The #1 seed Penn State Altoona women's volleyball team won the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship on Saturday afternoon, defeating #2 seed Pitt-Bradford 3-0 in the Adler Gym.
The victory marks the women's volleyball program's second-ever AMCC title. Their previous championship was earned in 2006. As AMCC champions, the Lady Lions receive an automatic bid to play in the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament next week.
Penn State Altoona rode the momentum they picked up in last night's comeback victory, winning over Pitt-Bradford in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-11, and 25-17.
Sam Link (Ebensburg, PA/Central Cambria) and Moira Corrigan (Havertown, PA/Haverford) tied for the team lead in kills with 11. Link also added nine digs.
Kelsie Bumbarger (Altoona, PA/Altoona) totalled 29 set assists for Penn State Altoona, and Robin Tabaka (Greensburg, PA/Hempfield) led the squad with three total blocks.
On Monday, the Lady Lions are expected to learn who, where, and when they will play in the first round of the NCAA Division III Regional Tournament.
