Walton Reassigned to Senior Associate AD/SWA at Albion

Albion College Athletic Director Matt Arend announced Friday the reassignment of Melissa Walton to senior associate athletic director/senior women’s administrator and a search for a full-time volleyball coach will begin immediately.

“Melissa’s administrative service is invaluable to the coaching staff and we look forward to her being able to concentrate on that work in this role,” Arend said. “It is my plan to have the new volleyball coach in place when the non-traditional season begins in the spring.”

Walton leaves the Albion volleyball program with a six-year record of 56-111. She guided the Britons to their only trip to the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament semifinals in 2009 when they knocked off Trine in a three-set first round contest. Under Walton’s guidance, Morgan Watler was a three-time all-MIAA selection (including first team awards in 2007 and 2009) and Sarah Slamer and Alexis Brumm were placed on the all-MIAA second team in 2006 and 2009, respectively.

Walton’s squads also excelled academically, earning MIAA Team GPA Awards in each of her years as coach.

“I will remember the six years spent as head coach of the Albion College volleyball program fondly,” Walton said. “It has always been my goal to be an athletic administrator, however, and I am very excited for the opportunity before me.”
