Cheyenne Luzynski Resigns as Alma College Volleyball Coach
Cheyenne Luzynski has resigned her position as Alma College Volleyball Coach to take an appointment as a Doctoral fellow in the Leadership and Counseling Department at Eastern Michigan University.
She is leaving to attend Eastern Michigan University as a Doctoral fellow in the Leadership and Counseling Deptartment, working towards a Doctorate in Educational Leadership
Luzynski will also assist also have the opportunity to coach in their Division I volleyball program as an assistant with Head Coach Kim Berrington.
“We are very disappointed that Cheyenne is moving on from our volleyball program, but also very excited for the opportunity in front of her,” said Alma Athletic Director John Leister. “Chey has elevated our program to a level of respect that is recognized not only in our league, but also in the country. As sad as it is to see her leave, she has left a program that presents a great opportunity for her successor.”
During her four-year tenure at Alma, Luzynski went from just eight wins and an eighth place finish in 2007 to three consecutive third-place finishes in the MIAA.
Her teams won 57 games the last three years and notched some memorable regional victories, setting up the new coach with a good base to build upon.
“As I hope anyone can imagine, sharing this with my Alma family was emotional and by no means easy, “ said Luzynski. “The time, energy, love and passion I have poured into this Alma College team the past six years has made every second authentic and memorable. This decision has been extremey difficult, and I will miss this institution immensely.
The search for a successor will begin immediately.
