Talkington Leads Bethany To Win Over Waynesburg
Oct. 13 – BETHANY, W.Va. – Senior co-captain Carrie
Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) reached a career
milestone Thursday night at Hummel Field House as she fueled the
Bethany College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Presidents’
Athletic Conference rival Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (8-12, 2-10
PAC).
The BC front line shined once again as they pounded down 35 kills
throughout the match to aid the Bison in their victory. Recording
14 of these 35 kills was Talkington who, with the score tied 2-2 in
the third set, blazed a ball by the Waynesburg defense and recorded
her 1,000th career kill. Talkington is now the fourth
Bison in history to reach this feat.
Despite the strong Bethany attack, Waynesburg continued to pick themselves up and continuously closed in on the Bison toward the end of each set. However, their confidence never wavered and the Green and White held strong, as they defeated the Yellow Jackets by scores of 25-22, 25-20, and 25-15.
Senior Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) also made history Thursday night as she recorded her 134th ace of her career, tying Heidi Fakes (1986-89) for 6th place all-time in service aces at Bethany College.
With this win, BC now posts a record of 23-2 and 10-1 in the PAC. This record is good enough to keep them in the chase for first place in the PAC rankings, as rival Geneva is a half-game ahead at 11-1. The Bison will look to continue to increase their record Saturday night as they travel to face host Thiel in a PAC showdown with a start time of 7 p.m.
