Strange Stepping Down As Babson Head Volleyball Coach

BABSON PARK, Mass. – After leading the Babson College women’s volleyball program to a total of 58 victories over the past five seasons, alumna Tonya Strange ’94 announced Wednesday that she is stepping down as head coach of the Beavers.

A two-sport star as an undergraduate at Babson, Strange coached the volleyball program from 1995 to 1997, posting a record of 39-36 during that stretch. She then returned for a second stint at her alma mater in 2006, and within three years had guided the team to a 16-12 mark and the program’s first-ever ECAC New England Tournament bid.

“Over the last five years, Tonya has worked tirelessly on behalf of our volleyball program,” said Director of Athletics Josh MacArthur. “In speaking with the team, it is obvious that she has instilled a true sense of passion and pride into the program. Her enthusiasm and teaching ability will certainly be missed, and we wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time back at Babson and I feel we were able to make great strides over the last few years,” said Strange. “As an alumna, I will always have an incredible passion for Babson, and I intend to remain connected to the College and the athletics program in every way possible.”

“The time commitment and dedication that I have given to the team has proven to be extremely rewarding,” Strange continued. “However, it has also meant time away from my family and other interests and aspects of my life. I am incredibly grateful to everyone connected to the program for this opportunity, and I hope Babson volleyball will continue to enjoy success for years to come.”

MacArthur announced that a national search for Babson’s next head volleyball coach will begin immediately.
