Colorado College sweeps Hendrix College, 3-0
No. 13 Colorado College swept Hendrix College in the final match
of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Central Intra-Pod
weekend on Sunday afternoon at Reid Gymnasium.
The Tigers went undefeated over the weekend, not losing a single
set in three games.
CC won the first set, 25-17 while holding Hendrix to a .049
hitting percentage. The Tigers helped contribute to the Warriors'
poor hitting by combining for seven blocks as a team during the
first set.
The Tigers were off to a strong start in the second set, taking an
early 6-0 lead. However, the Warriors fought back and took the lead
at 13-12. The set looked to be over with Hendrix leading 24-21, but
CC rallied back with five straight points to take the 26-24
advantage over Hendrix.
The Tigers hit a set-high .483 hitting percentage as a team during
the third set to beat the Warriors, 25-17 and earn the sweep over
Hendrix.
Senior Sarah
Schmoker led CC on offense with a team-high 13 kills.
Seniors Meredith
Ballard and Haley
Hamilton added 10 kills each to contribute to the
offense.
Senior Amy
Schornack ran the Tiger offense dishing out a team-high
39 assists.
Senior Hannah
Varnell had a team-high 18 digs to lead CC in the back
row, while freshman Kristen
Liberty added 10 digs on defense.
Hamilton led the Tigers at the net with five blocks. Freshman
Randi Braak
and Schornack added four blocks each to aid CC on defense.
With the win, Colorado College is now 20-5 on the season and 10-1
in SCAC action. Hendrix fell to 14-12 on the season and 5-6 in
conference play.
The Tigers will be back in action at home next weekend as they
host the 2011 Molten Volleyball Spike It Up Classic on Oct. 14-15
in Reid Gymnasium.

Schornack breaks record as Tigers sweep
Senior Amy
Schornack broke Colorado College's all-time career
assists record as the Tigers swept both matches during the Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Central Intra-Pod play on Saturday
at Reid Gymnasium.
With Schornack's second assist of the day, she set the all-time
mark with 3,718 career assists. The record was previously held by
former Tiger Larissa Enns (1998-01), who had 3,717 career assists.
After today's games Schornack holds the record with 3,774 career
assists.
No. 13 Colorado College swept the first day's match with a 3-0
(25-18, 25-20, 25-18) win over Rhodes College.
Senior Haley
Hamilton led the Tiger offense with 11 kills, while
senior Sarah
Schmoker added 10 kills.
Schornack combined for a double-double with a team-high 28 assists
and 11 digs.
Senior Hannah
Varnell dug up a team-high 14 digs to lead CC in the back
row, while freshman Randi Braak
had five blocks to pace the team at the net.
The Tigers swept Millsaps College, 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-20) in
the second match of the day to finish undefeated in six sets.
Schornack combined for her second double-double of the day with a
team-high 30 assists and 14 digs. She also added eight kills on
offense.
Schmoker had her first double-double of the day with a team-high
10 kills and 14 digs.
Senior Meredith
Ballard added a team-high 10 kills to help lead the
offense, while Braak added another eight kills for the Tigers.
Junior Laura
Goldsmith and Varnell added eight digs on defense for CC,
while Hamilton had a team-high four blocks at the net.
The Tigers are now 19-5 on the season and 9-1 in SCAC action.
Rhodes fell to 7-14 on the season and 1-8 in conference play.
Millsaps dropped to 13-8 this season and 6-4 in conference
action.
CC finishes the weekend against Hendrix College at 12 p.m. on
Sunday in Reid Gymnasium.
