Snyder Named Head Coach at Coast Guard

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(5/11/11)--Eric Snyder has been named the women’s volleyball coach at the Coast Guard Academy succeeding Rob Mullowney, who coached the Bears for the past four years.

Coast Guard was 30-6 overall last season and won the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) tournament championship advancing to the second round of the NCAA tournament. It was the Bears fifth NCAA tournament appearance.

Snyder, a past recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Thirty Under 30 Award, comes to the Coast Guard Academy with a rich background in coaching volleyball. He has a B.S. degree from Southern New Hampshire University in Sport Management/Business Administration, and a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.) from University of Tiffin (Ohio).

He was the head coach of women’s volleyball at two Division II schools (Stonehill College in 2007 and 2008) and University of Mary (N.D.) in 2009. While at Stonehill, his teams went 31-31 and he led the Skyhawks to a 21-11 mark during his final season with the program. Both of his Skyhawk teams at least doubled the previous season's win total.

Last season, Snyder was an assistant coach women’s coach at Division II Bentley University and an assistant men’s coach at nationally ranked Division III Emmanuel College where he coached Curtis Abram, the only All-American in Emmanuel history and helped the team to the best record in program history at 28-9.

Snyder has assistant coaching experience at several other Division I, II and III schools, including University of South Alabama, Tiffin, Western New England College, Emmanuel College, and University of Findlay (Ohio).

Snyder will officially begin his duties later this summer. Coast Guard returns four All-conference players, three first team selections including NEWMAC Rookie of the Year Kelsey DePorto. DePorto and sophomores Lauren Bloch and Karen Matic were also first team selections last season while sophomore Catherine Walker was named to the second team.
