Regals Advance to Regional Finals
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Led by outside
hitters Kylie McLogan and Rachel Smith who ended Saturday’s
NCAA regional semifinal match with 16 and 12 kills respectively,
No. 17 Cal Lutheran advanced to Sunday’s final with its
25-21, 26-24, 25-22 victory over the Chapman
Panthers.
Regals setter Jackie Russell recorded a game-high 37
assists, with right side Casy McWhirk, libero Jacki Richards, and
Russell ending the night with 16, 13, and 12 digs each.
Falling one kill shy of recording her eighth double-double of the season, McWhirk was able to hit .417 and earn nine kills out of her 17 attempts against Chapman.
A spot in national quarterfinals as a member of the elite eight will be on the line when Cal Lutheran (28-6) faces No. 12 Colorado College (33-6) in the final match of the Cal Lutheran Regional. Sunday’s action will begin at 12 p.m.
