Meghan Flaherty Tabbed To Lead CMSV Women's Volleyball Program
Riverdale, N.Y. – College of Mount Saint Vincent Associate Director of Athletics Barima Yeboah has announced the hiring of Meghan Flaherty as the school’s new head women’s volleyball coach. Flaherty inherits a team that finished with 13-11 overall record in 2010.
Flaherty, a standout for the Dolphins during her playing career, totaled 654 kills and 507 digs in four years in the blue and gold. She also recorded 359 aces for the Dolphins over that stretch. She ranks in the top-5 since the start of the 2004 season in each of those three categories.
During her career at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, Flaherty was a three-year captain of the volleyball squad and also served as a captain with the softball program for two seasons. She went on to receive the Dolphin Award in both sports at the department’s end of the year banquet. The Dolphin Award is handed out to a player in each program that best represents the program both on and off the field.
Embarking on her first season as a collegiate coach in 2011, Flaherty has a wealth of experience at the club, modified and high school level. From September 2008 – November 2009, she served as a modified coach at Yonkers Middle School where she demonstrated and taught the techniques of the game to seventh and eighth graders.
From there, Flaherty moved on to become the Junior Varsity Coach at Yonkers High School for the 2010 season. She worked mostly with ninth and 10th grade students on the techniques of playing volleyball.
This past season, she also worked with eighth -10th grade students with the Alpha Gamma Volleyball Club in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y., as an assistant coach.
Flaherty graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts in English with certification in Early Childhood and Childhood Education. She went on to receive her Masters in Childhood Literacy from Lehman College in 2011.
