Riverdale, N.Y. – Senior libero Renee Reynes (Bronx, N.Y.) lifted her 1,500th career dig and Morgane Booker (East Providence, R.I.) hit a match-high .462 as the College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Volleyball squad snapped a two match slide with a 3-0 sweep of visiting New Rochelle. The Dolphins took care of the Blue Angels by scores of 25-16, 25-14 and 25-11.
Mount Saint Vincent opened the night in strong fashion as it
jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the opening set. The Blue Angels would
close to within 10-9 in the frame, but the Mount tallied four of
the final six points, capped by a Booker to kill to take a 1-0
advantage in the match.
After falling behind 2-0 in the second set, Mount Saint
Vincent went on an 8-0 run keyed by a pair of Booker kills. The
Dolphins used a seven point spurt in the middle stages of the set
to take control of the stanza and the match at 2-0.
Mount Saint Vincent would fall behind by the same 2-0 score to
start the third set and struggled to gain command of the frame in
the early going. It was not until a six point run opened a 12-6
advantage for the Dolphins. The Mount sustained that momentum and
put the match away with 13 of the final 15 points of the third
set.
Reynes entered the match just three digs shy of the 1,500 mark
for her career and took care of them in the first set. She finished
with an even 20 on the night and has now lifted at least 20 digs in
seven matches this season, including each of the last four. She
also added a kill to the winning effort.
Booker paced a balanced offensive attack on the night with six
kills and a .462 hitting percentage. She also added an ace, a pair
of digs and a match-high three total blocks for the Dolphins.
Kristine
DeMasi (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added five kills and a .417
hitting percentage for the Mount and also lifted six digs. Maureen
Metzner (Mineola, N.Y.) joined DeMasi with five winners
on the night and also contributed six digs and a match-high four
service aces.
Senior Jessica
Williams (Cornwall, N.Y.) also had a solid all-around
match for Mount Saint Vincent after finishing with four kills, an
ace and 14 defensive digs. Erin
MacBride (Merrick, N.Y.) paced the squad with 15
assists.
New Rochelle was led on the night by Meghan King who recorded
four kills, while Kristina Nilaj lifted a team-high 19 digs. Zena
Jamal was the team leader for New Rochelle with eight
assists.
Overall in the contest, Mount Saint Vincent held the advantage
in kills 28-13 and in digs 63-56. The Mount also posted a 5-3
advantage in total team blocks. DeMasi and Gabriella
Burgos (Yonkers, N.Y.) each finished the night with a
pair of blocks for the Dolphins.
The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 4-9 overall on the
season. The Dolphins will look to get into the win column in league
play on Saturday with a pair of matches at Mount Saint Mary. The
Mount will take on the host Knights at 11:00 a.m. before tussling
