Tartans Open Home Invite with Two Wins
The Carnegie Mellon University volleyball team opened it's home
invitational with two wins Friday, September 23 in Wiegand Gym. The
Tartans move to 10-5 on the season as they defeated King's College
3-0 and the University of Scranton 3-1. Freshman Ali
Celentano (Mission Viejo, Calif./JSerra Catholic) led the
offensive charge in the close match with Scranton.
Against King's College, the Tartans won by scores of 25-12, 25-17
and 25-11. The team totaled 28 kills as freshman setter
Taylor Bell (Shelby Twp., Mich./Detroit Country
Day )collected 22 assists. Sophomore Senna Parsa
(Bellevue, Wash./Newport) finished with eight kills while
Celentano hit .300 with four kills. Bell also recorded two
kills in three attempts while sophomore Kerry
Hennessy (Walnut Creek, Calif./Bentley) hit .429 with
three kills and no errors in seven attempts.
Defensively, sophomore Ali Nichols (Portland,
Ore./Jesuit) led with six digs as sophomore Olivia
Mora (San Antonio, Texas/Saint Mary's Hall), Celentano and
junior Emma Olsen (Oakland, Calif./Bishop
O'Dowd) had three block assists apiece.
Celentano followed her .300 hit performance against King's with a
.535 hitting percentage against Scranton with 16 kills and only one
error. Sophomore Rachel Miller (Ann Arbor,
Mich./Ann Arbor Huron) tallied 12 kills while Parsa finished the
match with 11. Also having a great offensive match was senior
Maddie Rosnick (Fallsington, Pa./Pennsbury) with
six kills and zero errors.
Sophomore Emily Wright (Fairfax, Va./Chantilly)
collected 37 assists in the four game match along with a block
assist. Nichols led with 19 digs while Miller had 11 and senior
Emily Baddock (Houston, Texas/Dulles) picked up
10.
The Tartans will continue action in their home tournament with a
4:00 p.m. match against DeSales University on Saturday.
