CNU Selected to Host 2011 NCAA Volleyball Regional

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the second straight year, the Freeman
Center on the campus of Christopher Newport University was selected
as one of the eight regional tournament sites for the NCAA Division
III Volleyball Tournament. CNU, the seventh-ranked team in the
nation, enters the postseason tournament with a 33-4 overall record
and will host the regional this weekend, starting Friday, November
11.
"It's an awesome privilege to play the role of host for NCAA
Regionals again this year," said head coach Lindsay
Birch. "Last year was a huge success for all
those involved and we are anxious to put on another great
event!"
The Captains will host Great South Athletic Conference champs
Maryville (Tenn.) (26-7) in the opening round of the tournament on
Friday. The winner of that matchup will face the winner of
Salisbury (31-3) and Gallaudet (28-7). The other first round
matchups in Newport News will feature Randolph-Macon (23-5) vs.
Johns Hopkins (25-4) and Emory (34-4) vs. Richard Stockton
(25-8).
The winner of the Newport News Regional will advance to play in
the NCAA Championship Round in St. Louis, Mo. at Washington
University (Mo.).
