NEWARK-- Coffing has been named the head coach for women’s volleyball at Rutgers-Newark, Director of Athletics Mark Griffin announced on July 28. Coffing just completed his third year as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's volleyball teams at Rutgers-Newark.

“Having been able to work with Josh the past three years as an assistant in our women’s volleyball program we are confident that he can step right in as the head coach and move the program to the next level,” Griffin stated. “Josh understands the limitless potential we possess here at Rutgers-Newark and we are confident he can develop an environment where excellence on and off the court will be the standard.”

“I am really looking forward to taking over the helm of this program,” the Bayonne native said. “After working with this team for the last three years, I know we are going to have a great upcoming season.”

A graduate of Stevens Institute, Coffing joined the Scarlet Raider volleyball staff in August of 2008 after helping the Ducks to three North East Collegiate Volleyball Association titles (2005, 2006 and 2007).

A clinician at the Stevens Institute and Bob Bertucci volleyball camps, Coffing also served as a volunteer assistant coach at Bayonne High School for four years.

The Bayonne High School product played on Stevens teams which posted records of 33-9, 27-12 and 24-9 while achieving Dean’s List credentials. He worked most recently as a research chemist for the Exxon Corporation.

He was first-team all-state and played in the senior all-star game while earning four letters at Bayonne High School. The four-time All-Hudson County selection played on teams that posted a combined record of 70-29, serving as team captain as a senior.
