BOX SCORE

Center Valley, PA (November 9, 2011) – It was an abrupt end to the DeSales University volleyball season as the Bulldogs were upset in the opening round of the ECAC South Region Tournament by eight seeded St. Vincent College, 3-2 (25-21, 15-25, 17-25, 25-13, 15-13), to see their season come to a close with a 27-7 overall record.

The Bearcats (22-11) took set one by a narrow four-point margin as the Bulldogs committed a costly nine hitting errors, overshadowing a match-high 16 kills in the first set.  DSU picked up its play in sets two and three, dominating SVC to win easily in both sets, but in set four with the Bulldogs leading 9-7, St. Vincent scored 13 of the next 17 points to gain some momentum and never looked back from there.

That momentum carried into the fifth set where the Bearcats took an early 5-2 lead and with the score tied at nine ran off three straight points to lead 12-9 and the Bulldogs fell just short in its comeback.

Senior Lauren Hickey played well in her last career match as a Bulldog totaling 14 kills and eight digs.  Sophomore Haley Petrarca had a team-high 16 kills, but committed 11 errors in the loss.  Junior Paige Horrigan had 11 kills and hit .258 but had just one block after entering the match averaging more than a block per set.

Junior Justine McNulty totaled 45 assists and had 21 digs, freshman Chrissy Banos finished with six kills, eight digs, and two blocks, and junior Eden Reichard added a match-high 27 digs in the back row.

The 27 wins tie for the second most in a season, also accomplished in 1993.
